The above demo was created with samples from the ‘Casio cz-101 into MPC3000 sample pack‘ and drums from the ‘808 into Mpc60 sample pack‘. No other sounds were used. I put the samples into Maschine and used keyboard mode to create different pitches. The original samples are all tuned to C.

This pack was made by sampling the Casio cz-101, an old classic synth from the 80’s into the MPC3000. I sampled a higher C on the Casio and then pitched it down an octave on the 3000 to add a little bit of the MPC’s processing character. Straight from the line out of the cz-101 into the MPC’s line in.
The Casio cz-101 was the little brother of the cz-1000 synthesiser from the 80’s. It had the same internal engine as the cz-1000 but in a lighter and smaller package so it could be worn like a key-tar. The synth uses phase distortion technology to create it’s sounds. This allows it to sound sometimes quite analog and sometimes more digital. It’s a very versatile little keyboard which lets you to some advanced synthesis if you felt like it.
The MPC3000 was one of the most renowned MPC’s ever made because of its full and punchy sound and also for it’s powerful sample editing and chopping features. When it comes to Hip hop and electronic music production, this unit set the standard and workflow for many of todays modern DAW’s. Producers like Dr Dre used this box for many years and some still prefer it to computer software.
